Hola muchachos y muchachas,
how was thanksgiving??? im sure the food was delicious, and time with family priceless, and i bet you all cant wait for christmas. me either, december is by far the best month of the year, has a special spirit, and everyone can feel it. so this week was actually really normal, just a week of trying to talk to people, and make appointments, and it went well. some days are much easier than others, this week we worked hard did our best to find new people to teach. We met some really cool people as well. This week im traveling to the capital in montevideo and will be going to the temple! for those of my many friends who arent members, the temple is just like it sounds, the chruch has normal chapels for weekly worship, and as well temples which are more sacred, going is wonderful oppurtunity to leave the world, and go somewhere filled with peace and the spirit. so needless to say im stoked, as well we have a meeting with the mission president.
for the moment we dont have anyone ready for baptism, thats why we re so focused on finding, but i dont want to share a story that was special requested by josh spellman, he wanted to know my favorite story of the mission so far,
every day here is an adventure, but the days that are truely special are when you see a difference made in the life of someone and about 10 months ago it was a hot summer afternoon on the border of uruguay and brazil, my trainer (as i was new in the mission) and i had no idea what to do, so we began to knock on peoples doors and talking to people in the street, and we came to a door and a young man came out, we started talking to him about Christ and he told us that he was already a member but wasnt active in the church but said that we could come back. a week later we went back but his time at the door was an 11 year old girl, named whitney, she told us that they were busy, but invited us to her birthday party the next day, and of course we accpeted. so that next day we went and bought her a treat and went to the house, it was full of people, but the older siblings of whitney were all sitting quietly while the others talked so we went and sat by them, and throughout the conversation we started talking about the Church and about Christ, in the end we shared with them a message, asked if they would like to hear more, they said we could come back but they werent super interested, we left a little disheartened but either way we left with a stiff upper lip. im not sure how much time it was afterwards but we were walking one day and felt the need to go back to that house, and so we went, they were all home, invited us in, and we sat down and started once again to talk to them about the Gospel, we showed them how to pray, gave them a Book of Mormon, and invited them to ask God if what we had told them was true. Needless to say, after that day we started to work with them more and more, teaching them, and in the end they were baptized, and even today they write me every so often to tell me how much of a difference the Gospel of Jesus Christ has made in their lives. They are some of the poorest people ive ever met, but they are geuinley happy and content, and it was truely a blessing to take part in that Experience. ive learned from this experience and countless others that true peace, and contentment only comes through Faith in Jesus Christ and living the Gospel.
well i love you guys. hope to hear from you, see pictures, little updates, especially during the holidays, i miss you guys like crazy.
much love,
Elder Myers
