Choice and Accountability
> > family and friends, > > this week, went by in a flash, im doing great, just continuing in the work. this week we had the leadership council meeting of the mission. it was amazing as always. we spent all day thursday in the mission home. the plus was, when it was all over and the missionaries left, my companion and i had stayed to wait for our ride home, and our mission president sat us down on his couch and just sat there talking to us about what we had learned during the meeting, what we had been learning lately. it was a huge blessing for me. today i said goodbye to the hatchs. they are finishing their mission and going home next week, and i wont be able to see them again. luckily they live in provo and i will be able to see them when im back at byu again, so it was just a temporary goodbye. this sunday we were sitting in church, the meetings had already started and in walked a lady we were not expecting at all. her name is carmen, she is the sister of a recent convert to the church. we had taught her twice before. she has a hard life, filled with drugs, and related health issues. we had taught her , but hadnt invited her to church yet, but she came on her own accord, that is a HUGE, demonstration of faith. for me that was incredible. its the little things. > > > i have two thoughts for the week. one begins with a story of a cake. we sat down in a members house to enjoy a small cake, there were 6 of us. Two things were obvious, the cake would be enough for everyone to have some, but it wouldnt be very much for each one. the cake was already in crumbled pieces because it hadnt seperated from the pan smoothly. we all began to grab, the first thought that crossed each of our minds was to eat as fast as we could, in order to eat as much of the cake as we could. the natural man, is selfish, and sees only what is his, it is the first instict, the alarm that goes off in our head to make sure we get as much as we can, and the rest arent important. in that moment that the eating frenzy began, i thought, about the needs of the human body compared to the first natural instict i had felt. in all reality the body doesnt even need chocolate cake. so why did i feel such a strong desire to eat as much as a could, before the rest ate it? like i said before, the natural man is selfish, and we must put off the natural man, and subject ourselves to the influence of the spirit. If we focus on the needs of others, looking outward rather than inward, we will be filled with happiness and joy that comes from service to others, and we can trust and have faith that God will provide for our needs, so long as we are in His service. > > the second thought is on accountability. When we consider ourselves to be christians, what we mean to say is we consider ourselves to be followers of Christ. upon being baptized by proper authority we take upon ourselves His name in a very real sense. we will all stand before God to be judged for our decions and desires during this life. we will be held accountable for the use of christs name in our life. that means, that right now, everything, we do, every moment we spend, we are adding to the book of our life. do our decisions represent the will of Christ? do our desires? is there every a "freeby moment?" on friday night, where we no longer represent that name? > > well my family and friends, i love all of you, hold to the truth, dont let the lies of the world, blind you. > > > elder myers

Hospital Visit
> > hey friends and family, > > so this past week was different. last saturday i came down with a fever, spent a day in the house, then monday, when i got up and started moving around, i fainted and hit the floor. I went to the hospital and got everything checked out, and learned that i was very sick, and had passed out due to exhaustion, and my body needed to rest. So i went to the hatchs apartment. they live about 15 minutes away from us, closer to downtown montevideo. I spent the entire week living with them, resting and healing. it was an awesome experience. I spent my time sleeping, eating, studying and relaxing. Sister hatch fed me very very very well, i spent quite a bit of time running errands with elder hatch. and we spent most evenings sitting on the couch conversating. They took me in and treated me like a grandson, and it was an a very enjoyable experience. the only down side to any of it, was the anxiety to get back into the field and out working. Its hard to rest after getting so used to constantly be on the move. As well, living back in my house, i feel very spoiled, not having i big warm bed, and always eating amazingly 3 square meals a day, but i will fall back into the routine. it feels great to be out and about teaching again. > > I spent the majority of my time studying the life of Christ, what i learned, is that Heavenly Father, sent His son as the greatest act and demonstration of love in history. God reached out to us, through His son, and then Christ spent his life teaching and giving the example of how we accept what God has offered us, which is eternal life. we follow Christ to return back to the presence of the Father. it is a path the requires a life long commitment and progress. no one act saves us for forever, we are never "done" the joy however is in the journey. I know that it is through Chirst, that we return home. > > > love you all, stay safe.

Leadership Training
> family and friends, > > this week was incredible, the highlight was leadership training that we had in montevideo. we spent two days in the headquarters of the church where the mission home, temple, and church offices are located. we spent two nights in the hostal, and two days in meetings with president. by the end of the second day my brain couldnt handle anymore, at the end of the last segment i asked president if someone had filmed the training he said yes, and so i asked him for a digital copy because i didnt catch any of it. The food was amazing, all american food, by the end of the second day i was full. friday morning at 6 am all of the leaders divided into two teams and we had a solid game of soccer in honor of the world cup. all the missionaries of the south against the missionaris of the north.... it was intense. president was the referee. on the outside it was all smiles and laughs from the missionaries, on the inside it was bloodthirsty and pure desire to win. We won 12-5. i contributed to one of the goals with a awesome header. > > this coming week we have to train the missionaries based on the training we recieved, and we re pretty excited for that, ive learned i really enjoy teaching other missionaries. its been a blessing be able to work with the missionaries. > > this week, i spent most of my time pondering on the effects of self comparison. When we compare ourselves to others, we will find there is always someone, with more money, more confidence, better cloths, more intelligent, and if we spend our energy trying to become more like other people, or drawing our own self confidence based on being better than others, then we bulid on an empty foundation. We either are never good enough and cant accept ourselves, or spend our time constantly trying to gratify our vain ambition and selfish pride. the way of the Lord, is to base your self confidence in one question "what does Christ think of me?" and to constantly seek to build others. Seeking the aproval of Christ, and building others, fills us with joy, and oddly enough fills us with the confidence we were seeking the whole time. if we spend our time, focused on giving time and effort in the service of the lord, building others, we will be built, perhaps without our even realizing it. > > i love you guys, stay in the fight > elder myers >

HEY! IMAN UNCLE! just found out that my older sister ashton had her baby and his name is Calvin. he looks like a super stud, very handsome very strong just like his uncle. Hopefully he pulls a little humility from the other side of the family as well. this week has been amazing. we had a conference with the entire mission on thursday, and i was able to see friends from a all over urugay. old mission friends, all the guys from my group, a few of which i hadnt seen in over a year. it was amazing. the best part was an amazing surprise. Those that have been on this email list since the beginning may remeber Alisson, whitney and evelyn, a year and a half ago when i was in rivera, they were they first people i ever taught that were baptized in the church. i said goodbye to them when i left rivera and hadnt seen a single one of them since. Well thursday to my great surprise, as i stood with all the missionaries from the mission, worming her way through the crowd i saw a familiar face, it was EVELYN! she was at the conference because she was serving a short term mission inside uruguay with another sister missionary. it was amazing to see her again, she had changed alot, her and her older sister alison are both still going strong in the faith. it was one of the happiest moments of my mission. The conference in itself was very uplifting, the general authority who came to speak, was extremely intelligent. He was the co founder of franklin qwest. and had served as a mission president in uruguay many years ago. so serving in south america during the world cup is NUTS. uruguay lost its first game, but for the 2 hours uruguay was playing, the whole country went on strike. no body worked, buses, public service. everyone went home, and the whole country for 2 hours stopped. everyone was really upset thought when we lost to costa rica. a "no body" in the soccer world. but for me. life goes on. i continue to preach the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. well family and friends, for this week, i love you, i feel the strengh of your prayers sustaining me.

"Don't stand in the way of yourself"
> > ladies and gentlemen, > > This week, was great, today being our free day, we spent it going all over montevideo to see the sights, we went to the main stadium where the national soccer team plays....that was alright, the latin american missionaries were alot more excited for that. we then procceded to go to the coast, and that was awesome, i forget how much i love the beach and sand. we went to Ciudad vieja, which is the oldest part of uruguay, where it was first colonized, and walked around looking at very very old buildings, also alright.... but the kicker is this, and by far the best picture i was able to take today.. we passed the AMERICAN EMBASSY. the first american flag i have seen flying in the wind in very long time. i felt very very patriotic seeing it again. i love the states. > > The week was mostly filled with teaching, but this next week we have a giant acitivity for the whole city, and have formed a missionary choir for it, and while i dont have very much musical talent i have been loving it. i found out that i am a tener.. however it hurts most of the time for me to sing as high as they want me to. but i still love it. This coming week we have a conference with our mission and the other mission that is in uruguay with one of the leaders of the church, and we are very very very excited for that. his name is Lynn G. Robbins. > > What ive been studying personally lately has been how to dedicate yourself to a cause, and how to be self motivated, and its been amazing. Just a few personal thoughts ive had. In order to begin you have to have a vision of what you want to accomplish, You have to take inventory of the sacrifice required, as well as the excpeted reward. and Finally, planning and goal setting. The key to dedicating yourself to the cause is sacrifice, it doesnt become your passion until you give a part of yourself for it. its not wonder that Christ calls for us to give our whole might mind, and strength, in the cause of being His follower and disciples. it brings meaning to the promise that he that gives his life for the namesake of Christ, will "find it again." The vision of following Christ is not the path of partial sacrifice, its an all in or all out decision, and most often what stands between us and that dedication is what i call our favorite sin. that one habit, hobby, language, social aspect, in our lives, that we know is not in tune with following Christ, but have deemed it to difficult to give up. The more i study it, the more i find, that it is that mentality that keeps me from obtaining what i most desire. Peace, confidence, and feeling the spirit of God in my life. > > > be motivated my friends, and dont stand in the way of yourself. > > i know He lives, > > elder myers

The Fruit Tree
> hey friends and family, > > hows everyone doing back home, i hope great, if not, dont worry, whatever you re going through its for one of two reasons, you brought it on yourself, or its from God for your own personal growth. be sure to check which one it is! > > this week was awesome, it had its UPS and DOWNS. and thats when its the best. I love the story of the fruit tree. That grew, and grew, and grew until its branches were long, its leaves abundant, it grow so big, and only saw a future full of sunny days, and more growth. Then enters of the gardener, and begins to cut away, branch by branch, little by little, until the once great tree, stood almost barren of leaves, its branchs almost gone, it stood barren and small. The tree cries out WHY HAVE YOU DONE THIS TOO ME. DID YOU NOT SEE HOW BIG I HAD GROWN. the gardner waits, he knows what waits. Time moves on, days, weeks and then months pass the seasons begin to change, and there the tree stood. the gardner returns and now gives his explanation. > > i never needed big trees, with many leaves. look at your limbs, do you not see what has taken place. you have given that which is much more precious, that which i needed most, you have given, fruit. > > Friends and Family there is the shame of God and the shame of the world, the shame of the world comes from basing your self worth in the opinion of others, basing your self worth in being better and satisfying your pride. its a life full of sin, emptiness, and many nights laying in bed when no one else is there, and feeling hollow, like theres no reason, or purpose in what your doing. > > then there is the shame of God, it inspires change, it creates a desire to repent, and be better. It causes us to grow, and to give fruit. when we base our self confidence in the simply question what does Christ think of me, we will find acceptance, love, and purpose. > > Being a strong leader, or even a strong christian in general, is based in building your life on the Rock of Christ, that means your self confidence and self worth. I know if im choosing the right and i feel peace, knowing im doing the best i can, no other opinion matters. > > love you guys, stay in the fight, and build your lives on a sure foundation.

Humility
Hello family and friends!! this week was absolutely fantastic. the highlight was the conference that we had with Elder jorge Zeballos from chile. so we had all the missionaries in the surrounding cities come to cerro for a multi zone conference, with one of the members of the area presidency. we had 130 missionaries here, a ton of which were old friends, and missionaries that i havent seen in a long time, and as well SOOOOOOOO many faces of people that i have no idea who they were. its crazy how much the mission changes so fast, i feel like i dont really know anyone anymore in the mission. the focus was on how to know if you are giving your all of holding back in the mission. or really in any service. The point, was that you can only know if you re giving your all by setting goals, and progressivly give more and more, and to go until you feel like you reach the point and them some. second highlight of the week was doing divisions with a old friend of mine named elder lamb. He was the first missionary i met in my entire mission. when i showed up at the air port in texas, he was already there waiting to go to argentina. so long yet so short ago. so serving in an impovershed zone of uruguay, i have had some incredible learning experiences, the people i am surrounded by, as well as the changes i see, has been so humbling. What i have learned most in my time here is that God is no respector of persons, He loves all of His children, and does not prefer one over the other because of social status, fame, or money. I have been mostly working with drub addicts, ex convicts, and ex prostitutes, and have never seen such humility, and faith. People who are willing to give up everything, and i mean everything, in order to make the necesarry changes in life to be baptized. Elizabet, was recently baptized, shes an ex drug addict, and she is awesome. we had a lesson last night with a friend of hers that she invited to listen to us. at a point in the lesson, we were taking about Gods love for us, and elizabet pulled up her sleeves, and showed what was a spiderweb of scars from years of slitting her wrists, and shared her testimony, that after 60 years of looking to the world to solve her problems, it was the gospel of Jesus Christ, that pulled her out of the hole, of drug abuse and multiple attempted suicides. She is a huge example of the change that can take place within someone, and how we can never judge ANYONE as a hopeless case. Well loved ones, until the next one. elder myers

The Mission Feels Like Daily Life
Hey family and friends,Well i have made the move, and here i am in Cerro montevideo, and its been an awesome experience, i only have a week here, but its amazing. change of course is always hard, and i miss the people of tacuarembòl. The biggest difference here is the humility of the people. this is by far the poorest area i have been in as a missionary. The people here i very very kind, and more open to listen to us, and thats probably been the biggest highlight, as well the members of the church, here i very kind and helpfull. My new companion is a brazilian named elder caires franca cool kid, has a year and a little bit in the mission. i live in house with 6 missionaries, and it is NUTS. so much louder and harder to maintain clean as my other houses have been but at the same time, its a lot more fun too. Yesterday was the LAST phone call home, and it was awesome, just sitting and talking for an hour is a HUGE treat and blessing for me. although i think the biggest difference between this phone call and the other 3 is this time, i felt like just another phone call home, no different than if i were at college, or just calling to chat. It felt like being here in the mission was 100percent normal daily life. and that was pretty cool. Well my fellow loved ones. until next week, elder myers

Happy Easter
happy easter family and friends. it was an AMAZING easter. so this past week, was great, we spent most of the week, making visits of course. The people we are teaching right now are amazing. One is named bryan, and is a 17 year old kid. Hes the only one in his family that is listening to us right now, his dad is very agaisnt any belief in God or practice of religion, but bryan says he doesnt care, and participates anyway. He went with us to a bible study class that is called seminary at 6 in the morning today. I spent 4 years going to that class... let me tell you, it still stinks getting up at 5:30 in the morning to go. but it was worth it to go for bryan so he would feel comfortable going for the first time. Yesterday we made a visit to a lady named dalseira, shes a mother of two, but has a bone disease and the doctors dont know whats wrong, and has a family history of death from the same disease. We took a picture of Christ as an easter gift and she was very very thankful. It is AWESOME doing nice things for people just to make them happy. best feeling in the world. so we had a lesson with various families in a "family home evening" and the lesson went like the following. we bought a cookie for every person that was going to be there, while i went down into push up position my comp elder bedke offered a cookie to each person, and whether they accpeted or not i had to do 15 push ups. i dont know how many i did (over 100... nbd) but either way i came out of the lesson proud... but sore. lesson being, Christ atoned, or paid the price for our sins wheter we accept it or not. when we dont accept, we lose out, when we do accept, it is gratifying to Him to see us appreciate His gift. Its ilogical to waste it away. I love you guys, stay safe, happy easter. Love, elder myers

9:30pm (for real)
Buenas Días mission followersi hope all of you had a fantastic week, i sure did. this week, was probably one of the fastest yet, i cant believe i was already writing you guys a week ago. a few stories for the week, We are currently teaching a young man named bryan, hes 17 years old, good kid, he went to the general conference last week, and had promised to come to the regular church meetings this past sunday. so sunday morning arrives, we re wating for him outside the church doors and he doesnt show up, we waited until 9:40 and still wasnt showing up. so we gave him a call, he answered and when we asked where he was at, he asked us why, we told him we were waiting for him at the church, and he said " doesnt it start at nine thirty tonight?" we realized our mistake. he had thought we had church at night. being the awesome kid he is, he got dressed super quick, and came anyway. and we all had a good laugh. Happy easter ladies and gentlemen, i know Christ lives, and it is marvalous, hope filling, and awe inspiring to think about it. I hope all of you will take a moment, ponder on your faith, and give thanks to God, for the sacrifice of His son, and His great plan of salvation. i love you all. http://ift.tt/1gyQopd

General Conference
this week has been fantastic, and as always i am very excited to begin the new week by sending out a group email. i hope it finds all of you in peaceful and content content. i feel very peaceful and full of hope after spending the past weekend listening to General conference. We also had interviews with the mission president, and as always it was amazing. I feel so grateful to be constantly surrounded by such good men. Elder bedke and I spend almost every night up far too late having "real talk". its so nice serving with my friend. So listening to general conference was a blast. living in a spanish speaking country, it was obviously transmitted in spanish but all the american missionaries we in a small little room huddled around a t.v SO EXCITED to see the leaders of the Church speak to the world. The message that touched me most was the principle that God blesses man in tune with our desires. if we desire evil our life will be filled with evil, if we desire good, our life is filled with good. The point being that we are to train our desires, to learn to desire what God desires, and to accept His will. this life is the time for man to prepare to meet God. Dont procrastinate! The president of the Church is named Thomas S. Monson, he spoke various times throughout the conference, but what i wish to state before all of my friends and family are two of my deep convictions. 1. Christ Lives. 2. He has called prophets and apostols to guide His church as he did in ancient jerusalem, and i have a testimony that Thomas Monson is His prophet in our day. i love all of you, thanks for reading my emails, and for writing me back, your stories, pictures, and letters of love help me to continue strong. love, elder myers

Spring Break
> Happy Spring Break!! > > from what i understand it is or has been or will be very soon, spring break, that is awesome. hope you guys enjoy it. i for one LOVE the fall, the change of leaves, brisk mornings and slightly warm afternoons. its awesome, the only down side is i still feel like it should be halloween and not even close. i also tell all the americans it feels like football season to me. > > so every six weeks, is a transfer, and every transfer all the missionaries in the mission rotate, or stay for another six weeks. my companion elder marinoski ended his two years as a missionary and so tonight im going to put him on a bus headed for home. and ill be staying here in tacuarembo for another six weeks, but the best part is my next companion is a guys named elder bedke. hes one of my best friends in the mission. we left the states together, spent nine weeks in mtc together in argentina, and have kept in touch ever since. we re both beyond stoked. he gets here tonight in the middle of the night. pictures will be sent next week. This past week though was very very normal, we spent the last two days going all over the city saying goodbyes with my comp. > > this coming week im traveling to montevideo with elder bedke for a meeting with the other leaders of the mission. my friends elder bulloch, elder mella, elder woods will all be there. all guys the came out to the mission with me. it will be amazing to see them. > > we are teaching two amazing people. Luis and Gloria. both about 55 years old. nicest people ever. their son died about 1 year ago, in a motorcycle accident. They ve been looking for peace in their lives ever since. Luis is also the reciever of a heart transplant. they say they have finally found peace in thier lives, and are coming to Christ. > > Being a missionary has been and continues to be the hardest but most rewarding experience of my life. Over coming fear, learning to love, watching so much pain and heartache. but all of it comes down to one solemn testimony, that i can say with confidence, based on my personal experiences, what i have felt, what i have seen, i know that Jesus Christ lives, and it is my testimony to all those that will hear. i hope all of you feel or can come to feel the same. > > love all of you.

Truly Christians
if my calculations are correct, you guys had a time change! WE DID TO. however we gained an hour of sleep. i needed it. we are officially going into autumn and its gorgeous. the leaves are turning yellow, the air is fresh, and it feels like football season to me everywhere i go. this week, was a normal week. the biggest event so far was yesterday. the hatchs, an elderly couple that are here serving as missionaries, are here in tbo. i lived next door to them for six months in paysandu they were visiting for the weekend. they took us out to dinner last night to a really really nice restaurant. it was really nice to see them again, and also really cool to go out to eat. it was the first and probably the only time during the mission that ill get to do that. so thought for the week, reading in matthew 8. A "scribe" talking to Jesus Christ offers Him his service by saying that he would follow Him wherever he would go. A scribe during new testament times was a part of the ruling class. and by offereing his service was offering Jesus a spot within the ranks of the Higher class citizens which would have meant an increase in social status as well as popularity and fame. however the answer Christ gave is very instructive." and Jusis saith unto him, the foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the son of man hath not where to lay his head." i was reading in a book called Jesus the Christ about what He was saying to the scribe. The reference is that he is describing to the scribe the requirment of any that make such a clame. Christ had no home, no resting place, He simply lived to fufill His duty, going wherever the Father called Him to go. He shows the scribe that more than choosing to be His follower, meant a commitment to life long service, and that Christ chose his disciples not for power or prestige, but rather a worthy heart and willing hands. lesson for us all. Its so easy to say we follow Christ, or to claim to be Christians in a convenient moment, but we must remember that more than the words, and the necklaces, is the internal commitment, in our hearts to leave any and all behind to follow the call and fufill our duties.

Friends and family! how are all of you? i hope this week was as good for you guys as it was for me. ive got some pretty awesome news this week. first of all, it was a fantastic week, we spent two days in the capitol, learning from the mission president, spent time in the temple, and slept in air conditioning. I WAS FREEZING. haha i couldnt sleep very good i spent the night saying to myself that i just wanted my crummy matress and fan. #2ndworldproblems i dont know if hash tagging is still a big thing, but it was big when i left so enjoy. so this week, we had some amazing lessons, great people that had left the church are coming back. we had three families in church yesterday that had been inactive for quite some time. one of them brought their niece and it was her first time in church, she said she had a great time. The best part of the week was learning about Gods plan for all of us, we watched a video presentation about the hubble space telescope, and the the discoveries that were made from it, about the true size and grandour of space, and its incalculable. to much for our minds to comphehend, and what never ceases to amaze is that on a world so small, being a person even smaller, my Heavenly Father, loves me, and cares about me personally. Its amazing to think about. when i feel alone, when i feel sad, its pretty awesome to remeber that out of billiones and billiones of people, Heavenly Father loves me specifically as one of His children. i hope you guys have and can continue to feel the same. i love you guys. have a great week, make yoursevles goals, push yourselves to do somehthing that makes you uncomfortable and grow.

Buses, Popcorn and Working
hola mission followers, this week was great, such a good week, and thats because we worked as hard as we could, trying to teach, and working like crazy. this week we re traveling again! going to the capital yet again. we rented a giant bus and are taking all the missionaries in tacuarembo to montevideo for training. we will be spending the night in the hostel.. which means SLEEPING IN AIR CONDITIONING. that will be the second time in a year that im sleeping in ac. and the last time i was FREEZING from not being used to it. but the idea of it is luxurious and makes me happy. we had an awesome movie night in the church, we got a projector, and put on "the other side of heaven" we didnt watch, we made popcorn for everyone watching, but i could hear it in the other room. at the end, when the missionary goes home, i legit almost cried. ive decided, that i love the mission to much for now to come home. no worries, i love you guys too, but this has been amazing being here, and for now, im happy living the way i do, doing what i do. being a representative of Christ is pretty amazing, constantly trying to help other people, is pretty fun. what i am learning, who i am becoming is priceless, and i cant and would not trade these expereinces. time is short ladies and gents, every day the world becomes worse, its time to draw the line, make your stand. a man who doesnt stand for something will fall for anything. i testify to that. love you guys.

hey friends and family, this week has been awesome, great week of hard work. we had mission transfers when missionaries rotate around the country. last time we stayed in the bus terminal all night making sure everyone got on the bus and arrived safely but this time we delegated it out more and got alot more sleep.. such a better decision. the only sad part is that my good buddy elder goold got transfered, im gonna miss the kid a ton but as always life goes on, im getting more used to just missing people. its part of mission life. this week we went out with quite a few of the leaders of the church here in the city, we told them to strap on their boots and break their back packs out, we had a good time though and they enjoyed it, made most of them remember old times in the mission. we had a fun activity with all of the primary kids in the city. we had a MISSIONARY TRAINING CENTER FOR A DAY activity, all the kids had name tages and we spent the day teaching them how to be missionaries. it was so much fun. This week i was studying about the importance of scriptures in missionary work and especially the Book of Mormon. for my non mormon friends who read this http://ift.tt/1j5z9eF thats just a web link that explains what it is. But the purpose of the Bible and Book of Mormon are to testify of Jesus Christ, and when someone begins that new journey in life, they need some kind of guide, and as a missionary i can put into their hands that guide with the promise that i know it will work, because its what i use everyday in my own life, we need scriptures in order to stay on the path. i Know that the bible and the book of mormon are written by prophets, and can help all of us on this path we call life. so for all of you, mormons and non mormons alike READ YOUR SCRIPTURES.
